In celebration of Women’s History Month, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office is highlighting the innovative work of Dr. Lynn Wendt, a senior scientist at Idaho National Laboratory.

Her research addresses some of the limitations to storing biomass, like its tendency to decay and expire. Biomass plays a critical role in creating a low-carbon future and Dr. Wendt’s research has helped develop systems that not only delay decomposition but increases biomass value during conversion. 

Securing the nation’s supply chains from uncontrolled loss in biomass storage is critical to increased production of decarbonized, sustainable biofuels and products. Through her scientific innovation and team leadership, Dr. Wendt bridges the gap between fundamental and applied sciences and explores an approach critical for commercialization of sustainable bioenergy.
