DOE Issues a Final Rule Pertaining to Test Procedures for Water Closets and Urinals

The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a pre-publication Federal Register final rule pertaining to test procedures for water closets and urinals. This final rule amends the test procedures for water closets and urinals to reference the most recent update to the relevant industry standard, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standard A112.19.2-2018. In this final rule, DOE is also amending certain definitions and adding definitions for certain terms that are currently used in the Federal test procedures but are not defined.

  • The effective date of this rule is 30 days after date of publication in the Federal Register. The final rule changes will be mandatory for product testing starting 180 days after date of publication in the Federal Register. The incorporation by reference of certain material listed in this rule is approved by the Director of the Federal Register 30 days after date of publication in the Federal Register. DOE will send a follow-up e-mail once the notice publishes to announce the effective dates.
