Just Announced: Secretary Granholm to Keynote Community Solar Summit

DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm will join the National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) Summit on January 25. This public, virtual event will feature a discussion on how community solar and NCSP fit into broader DOE goals and share new announcements from partners that will accelerate deployment of community solar.

Solar Power in Your Community Guidebook 

DOE released the Solar Powering Your Community guidebook, which is designed to assist local government officials and stakeholders in developing solar deployment plans and overcoming common barriers in today’s market. 

EnergyTech University Prize has $250,000+ Available for Students 

The EnergyTech University Prize is looking for students who are interested in developing a business plan for a promising energy technology. Applicants must identify an energy technology, assess its market potential, and propose a strategy for commercialization. Student teams compete for more than $250,000 in cash prizes, including a bonus prize for solar-focused projects, plus the opportunity to develop leadership skills and work alongside peers. Apply by January 31 at 5 p.m. ET

Roll Call: 21 Public Utility Commissions Selected for Lab Support   

DOE announced the 21 public utility commissions that will receive technical assistance from the National Laboratories to help state regulators make decisions and develop innovative solutions to increase grid reliability and resiliency, improve customer engagement, and quickly decarbonize their grids.

Energy Storage for Manufacturing and Industrial Decarbonization Workshop

February 8-9 | 11 a.m. ET 
Join DOE and nine national labs for a free, virtual workshop on Energy Storage for Manufacturing and Industrial Decarbonization (Energy StorM). The workshop will identify industrial energy needs, like heat and electricity, and discuss potential clean-energy storage solutions to help decarbonize industrial processes that contribute to nearly a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions in the country. 

Heating Up: Advances in Concentrating Solar-Thermal Power

February 10 | 3 p.m. ET
SETO leadership will be joined by guest speaker Chiranjeev Kalra, Vice President of Power Generation Engineering at Heliogen, to highlight recent developments in the commercialization of next-generation concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP) technology. The webinar will also cover the broader scope of CSP research, development, and demonstration work in SETO’s portfolio, which advances DOE goals in renewable power, long duration energy storage, and industrial decarbonization.
